About
Iām an artist and designer who lives in the San Francisco Bay Area
My work explores the deeply resonant connection I have with wild spaces, creating new narratives that run counter to the Western cultural tradition of separation. Replacing the window frame-like views of the landscape tradition with one of immersion and embodiment, I explore the lived experience of being in wild places. The wild has a presence (or series of presences), and I engage in experiential dialogue with it.
Centered on the journeys I take into these spaces, and my experience of being there, I capture the human traces and gestures I encounter. Tread patterns of boots, mountain bike tires and occasionally vehicles appear in the mud and dust: like drawings that map the trajectories of bodies moving through space. Back in my studio I reconstitute these impressions into abstract works that explore our interrelationship with the wild planet.
